As some of you may know, our new patient fee is a donation to Pressley Ridge, foster and adoption services. This organization was founded in 1832 and remains headquartered in Pittsburgh. However, they have grown to serve central Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Texas. Our partnership with Pressley Ridge started over 8 years ago from a patient’s recommendation….
Why Pressley Ridge? There are a few reasons, some more personal than others. From a personal level, the founders of Owl Chiropractic believe you receive from the hole you give through. Helping families and children in a time of need hits home for us.
My parents were foster parents when I was growing up. So, I am very aware of the needs certain families have. One of my favorite things about my family is that my sister is adopted. She was adopted as a newborn from the city of New York. She literally came in a yellow taxi cab with a nurse to our home a few days before Christmas, but that's another story. We see our patients are more than patients; they become part of the owl family. We believe family is what you make it to be and comes in all shapes and sizes, so helping people to create a family serves a bigger purpose. These are just some of the reasons why we chose to partner with Pressley Ridge.
So why the donation? When a new patient makes an appointment and starts this process in our office, there are a lot of things we need to know before we can just “ adjust" them.
Are you even a good candidate for chiropractic care?
Do you have spinal subluxation causing aches and pains and your health to decline?
Do you have any contraindications to chiropractic care?
Do you have any congenital or acquired malformation we need to know about?
What is your health history, accidents, injuries, and previous diagnosis that affect your body’s ability to be healthy?
Are you going to follow our recommendations?
Do we want to work together, *spoiler alert* whatever your issue is didn’t happen overnight so it isn’t going away overnight.
We can not answer any of these questions until we complete our exam and x-rays, so why not make that part of our mission? If a patient chooses not to move forward with care after we have time to look over their case and make our recommendations, or Owl Chiropractic does not accept them as a patient for whatever reason, isn't it nice to know you did a selfless act? We want our patients to understand WHY they are having the problems they are having and be committed to fixing them, or it will not work.
Owl also loves staying and being involved in the community, especially this time of the year. This month, we partner up with them for our annual Angel Tree. If you aren't familiar with what an angel tress is, it is when children in foster care put out a holiday wish list, and willing participants choose a child’s name and buy and wrap the things they have asked for. This is personally one of my favorite things Owl Chiropractic does, as I mentioned in Embracing the Holidays with a Positive Mindset.
This is my why, why the donation process for new patients, and why this organization, Pressley Ridge. Giving back and being a part of something bigger is what we want Owl Chiropractic's legacy to be. Helping comes in all forms, shapes, and sizes just like families.
So, if you are struggling with health issues or you have a loved one struggling with health issues, give the gift of health this holiday season. We're offering a gift card for purchase that you can pass on to someone in need. Reach out to us here and donate today!
