Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that you may have some questions. Check out this page for common questions we get here at Owl Chiropractic.
Interested in hearing about what makes us different from any other chiropractor in the area?
Yes! We love our “Little OWL’s!” We see children from birth through their teenage years. Why would we see a newborn you ask? The birthing process can be traumatic whether it is natural, induced or a c-section. Adjusting a newborn is a lot different than an adult adjustment. It only takes small pressures to move their little joints (like the amount of pressure you would apply to your eye when putting in a contact) and can help assist with nursing, colic, digestion issues, reflux, better sleep and more. For children, chiropractic benefits could result in relief from allergies or ear infections, decrease in bed wetting, increased focus, improved immune system and overall better health. In teenagers, chiropractic benefits could result in relief from neck pain from looking at screens, increased mobility for sports performance, headache relief, structure improvement for scoliosis and more.
Your initial consultation (New Patient Exam) is covered with a $75 donation that goes towards a local non-profit in Lancaster County. Costs after that vary and depend on the number of treatments required to effectively and efficiently treat your condition. We determine that after getting to know you, your medical history and your spine at your New Patient Exam.
No, you don’t have to get x-rays but why wouldn’t you want to? Your spine controls your nervous system which controls everything in your body and wouldn’t you want us to know what we are working with before we start moving things around? Our office does x-rays so that we can perform the safest of adjustments for our patients. You’d be surprised to know that on our x-rays we have found spines with extra vertebrae, broken/fused vertebrae or less ribs than the standard that our patients didn’t even know about themselves. Also we do not require x-rays from patients who are under 5 years of age or that are currently pregnant.
The short-term and long-term benefits of regular chiropractic treatments have a number of benefits including:
Spinal and extremity pain relief
Headache and Migraine relief
Increased mobility and range of motion
Arthritic joint pain relief
Decreased tissue inflammation
Increased sense of well being and relaxation
Increased performance and energy
Allergy and sinus relief
Cholic
Relief from ear aches
You may have heard it said that once you go to a chiropractor you have to keep going back. Before we answer that question, ask yourself how many times you have visited a dentist? Like most people, you’ve probably gone a dozen times. Why? Quite simply, to prevent your teeth from literally rotting out of your head. Or think about how many times you have done an oil change to your car? Hopefully every 5,000 miles or so and why? So that your vehicle continues to operate at optimal performance levels.
So our answer in short is yes. After we have eliminated your pain or initial concern for seeking out chiropractic care, we do recommend that you maintain a schedule of periodic spinal checkups. Just like the dentist or mechanic, we know that prevention is key to reducing recurrences of existing health conditions and minimizing injuries in the future. Chiropractic care moving forward helps you to enhance overall health and maintain wellness.
There are three things you may experience after your first adjustment with us. First, you may feel no difference. That is okay! This may mean that your body will take more time to heal. Healing takes time so make sure you are resting and getting plenty of water. Second, you may feel really, really good. Wonderful! Just remember it may be short lived and your health issue may return - which is ok. This is typically why we need to see you more in the beginning of care until your spine returns to a more stable state. Third, you may feel sore and that is normal. This is what our doctors hope the outcome will be. We are moving joints and muscles that may have been subluxated (stuck) for many years, so the soreness you feel is your muscles adapting to your adjustment. The soreness you may experience will be as if you went to the gym for the first time in a few months or ever. If you do experience soreness after your adjustment, our doctors recommend using heat - a hot bath or shower, heating pad or rice pack on the sore area. Apply the heating source for 20 minutes, then remove for 20 minutes. You can repeat this process if necessary.
