Bringing Subluxation-Based Chiropractic to the Classroom

Updated: Apr 16

Introducing Subluxation-Based Chiropractic in the Classroom

At the heart of chiropractic is a powerful principle: the body is self-healing and self-regulating when interference is removed. That principle is the foundation of subluxation-based chiropractic care. Unfortunately, there are many within our profession and outside our profession who do not recognize this principle. They are moving chiropractic care towards mechanistic or symptom-based models.

Introducing Subluxation-Based Chiropractic in the Classroom

One of the reasons for this is the lack of research proving/showing subluxations. However, with advancements in technology, our method of chiropractic proves and shows vertebral subluxations so it has become part of our mission at Owl Chiropractic to keep the roots of chiropractic alive while preparing the next generation of chiropractors to carry this torch into their practices.

There are five components of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC):

  1. Spinal Kinesiopathology- abnormal motion or positions of a spinal vertebrae

  2. Neuropahtophysicoly- Dysfunction in the nervous system due to misalignment.

  3. Myopathology- Muscle changes such as a spasm or atrophy near the misaligned vertebrae

  4. Histopathology - Inflammation and changes in the soft tissue.

  5. Pathophysiology- Degenerative changes over time, like disc decay or arthritis.

Our methods used at Owl Chiropractic allow us to objectively identify the components of the VSC. So it is part of our purpose to teach other chiropractors this, especially students. The Pierce Results Method is not taught in chiropractic colleges, unfortunately. Most chiropractic colleges do not even stress/ teach the importance of X-ray analysis, so having scientific objective research is hard when this is not the main objective of schools. This is why, Dr. Scott and myself, along with a few others in our profession have been teaching and lecturing.

Introducing Subluxation-Based Chiropractic in the Classroom

Subluxation-based care isn’t about chasing pain, that's another profession job. It's about restoring function, enhancing communication between the brain and the body, and ultimately helping people live better and healthier lives. We want to teach students how to do this using the most up-to-date advanced tools to continue to prove the 5 components of the VSC.

More Than Technique—It’s a Calling

Subluxation-based chiropractic care is why miracles happen every day at Owl Chiropractic. Dr. Scott and I know it's our calling now to help students learn this approach and help save the roots and principles of chiropractic care, for our patients.

It’s not just about adjusting a spine for pain—it’s about understanding why we adjust, and how that adjustment can change someone’s life. It's about using technology (and science!) to find, correct, and prove you made a change to a VSC in a reproducible system. That is why we teach. That is why we are excited to have interns.

Whether you’re a student, a practicing chiropractor, or someone curious about the power of principled care, we invite you to connect with us. Attend a seminar, shadow in our office, or ask us to speak at your school. Together, we can ensure that chiropractic stays rooted in its core purpose—and continues to change lives for generations to come using science.
